Did you know?

Most people Everyone who has ever been pregnant has uttered the words “what?  I am eating for two” at least once.  And, in fact, you are eating for two.  However, one of the two happens to be a tiny little baby who doesn’t need quite the same amount of calories as a grown person.  In fact, you only need 300 extra calories per day during pregnancy.  So what exactly is 300 calories?  Here are some examples of 300 calorie snacks:

1.  1/2 of a turkey sandwich and a cup of skim milk

2.  1 medium banana and 2 tbsp. of peanut butter

3.  1 medium baked potato with 2tbsp sour cream & 2 tbsp salsa & 1 cup of cut melon

4.  1 & 1/2 oz roasted almonds and a light mini babybel cheese

5.  1 Snickers bar (because sometimes you just need chocolate!)

Remember, there are lots of reasons to maintain a healthy weight during pregnancy.  You will feel better, especially towards the end when you could swear the baby weighs 15 lbs, and will bounce back quicker after Baby has arrived.  Also, once Baby has arrived and you are breastfeeding, remember that extra caloric intake should be upped to about 500 extra calories/day.

Hoping everyone has a great day,

Marie
